Applying for a TransferWhere a tenant holds the tenancy of their present dwelling for a period of at least 18 months, and subject to satisfying other eligibility conditions, they may apply for a transfer to alternative local authority accommodation within Sligo Borough Council’s administrative area. A tenant must apply in writing to the Housing Officer stating the reasons for the transfer request and enclosing supporting documentation where necessary. The application will then be assessed and a decision notified in writing to the applicant. If successful, tenants will be placed on the transfer waiting list and will be assessed according to the Scheme of Letting Priorities. In determining eligibility for inclusion on the transfer waiting list the following will be considered:
Mutual TransfersA Mutual Transfer involves two tenants applying to swap houses. This tends to be a quicker process than applying to be placed on the transfer list as a mutual transfer does not involve spending time on a list and can go ahead once certain criteria are met. A tenant must seek to find a suitable tenant themselves who is willing to engage in a mutual transfer with them. Both parties must then submit their request in writing to the Housing Officer for consideration. The application will then be assessed and a decision notified in writing to both tenants. Under no circumstances should a mutual transfer take place without first having received prior written approval from the Housing Department. |
