Non Principal Private Residence Charge Introduced

04/05/2010 -

The Local Government (Charges) Act 2009 introduced a €200 annual charge for the owners of non principal private residences. The charge applies mainly to owners of private rental property and holiday homes. It also applies to vacant residential property unless newly built but unsold.

Liability to pay the charge is assessed by owners themselves. Ownership of a non principal private residence on the "liability date" (31st July in 2009) determines liability to pay the €200 charge.

Payment is due by 30th September. A €20 per month, per property, late payment fee will apply from 1st November in respect of each month for which payment is overdue.

Payment of the charge can be made:

  1. on-line at www.nppr.ie
  2. Alternatively, the form can be downloaded, completed and forwarded with payment (cheque/bank draft/postal order made payable to LGCSB NPPR) to NPPR, Po. Box 11654, Dublin 8.
