Reconstruction Loan

Works which qualify
  • Extra bedroom to relieve overcrowding.
  • Providing bathroom/shower/hot water supply.
  • Central Heating.
  • Replacing defective doors/windows.
  • Other works considered essential by the Borough Council.
The maximum improvement loans are: -
  • €20,000 where the loan is secured by a mortgage on the house.
  • €8,000 where the loan is not secured.
The following documents should accompany all completed application forms.
  • Your P.60 for previous tax year and 2 consecutive payslips.
  • Estimate/Costings of the proposed works. (The estimate should be submitted on headed paper and should quote VAT Registration and Contractors C.2 Registration details.
  • A plan/specification if necessary. (Check if planning permission is required).
  • A Bank Reference from the Bank you normally deal with.
  • Evidence of any existing borrowing, debt, etc, certified by the lending institution involved.
  • €50.00 Application Fee.
If you qualify - what then?
Sligo Borough Council will issue a letter of approval.

  • If €8,000 or under not mortgage is necessary and no legal fees are incurred.
  • If over €8,000 a mortgage is necessary and legal fees of approximately 10% of the loan will fall due - give appropriate loan approval letter to you Solicitor.
  • You may need bridging finance, as the Borough Council will only advance money as the work progresses. You should also check with the Contractor to see if he will wait until you receive loan cheque or loan instalments.
