Litter Management
Under Section 10 of the Litter Pollution Act, 1997-2009, Local Authorities are required to adopt Litter Management Plans for their functional area. The purpose of this plan is to improve the Litter status of the City of Sligo. Sligo Borough Council Litter Management Plan for 2007-2010 can be viewed in the download section of this site.

Bill and Leaflet Posting
Section 19 of the Litter Pollution Act 1997- 2009 prohibits the erection of articles and advertisements on certain structures, which are visible from a public place, unless the permission of the owner or occupier is given in advance and in writing or exempted under any other enactment. Structures for the purposes of this legislation include any land, door, gate, window, tree, pole or post.
Under the Litter Pollution Act 1997-2009 the placing of advertising leaflets on the windscreen of any mechanically propelled vehicle is prohibited.
Attention Dog Owners
The Litter Pollution Act, 1997- 2009 covers offences with regard to dog fouling in a public place. A person in charge of a dog should immediately remove the faeces and ensure it is properly disposed of in a suitable sanitary manner.
A person in charge of a dog who contravenes the act shall be guilty of an offence and can be liable for a fine of €150.
