Forthill Park Forthill Park , owned by Sligo Borough Council, is located close to the centre of Sligo with access from Holborn Hill and Connaughton road. The total park covers an area of approximately8.2 hectares ( 20 acres).The park is currently almost completely undeveloped comprising primarily agricultural pastureland. Its only use currently is by a local soccer club who use a playing pitch on site. The park has spectacular views overlooking Sligo and has the remnants of a historical star shaped fort referred to locally as the Greenfort. A master plan to guide the development of the site was adopted by Sligo Borough Council in 2002 and it is intended to commence development works in 2004. Proposals Develop Forthill Park as a neighborhood park for both local communities and the public at large. Proposed works include the provision of :- Boundary treatment and improvement of entrances Pedestrian pathways Landscaped and woodland areas Seating areas Vehicular entrance from Connaughton road Car park A clubhouse and visitor centre Playing pitches and training area, fitness trail Conversion of some of the existing grasslands in open areas to wildflower meadows The management of existing trees by implementation of tree surgery works as required and the planting of additional trees to maintain the canopy and to further enhance the park Interpretation of the Greenfort
