There are four elements in the anti-litter campaign.
Education and awareness to
prevent litter.
The litter warden pursues and
prosecutes identified offenders.
Street sweeping by the Borough
Council Roads Dept focussed on the city centre.
Involvement of local residents
groups in litter prevention and upkeep of their own
areas.
We are convinced that education,
awareness and involvement of local residents is key
to preventing and reducing littering and improvement
of the appearance of residential areas.
The Borough Council budget only allows for very occasional
sweeping of residential areas, so to keep them looking
well its important that residents become actively involved
in upkeep of their areas.
Measures to free Sligo from litter are set out in the
Litter Management Plan.
