The Sligo County Council Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing a number of important pieces of legislation. In recent years a lot of new legislation has emerged in a bid to regulate waste management situation in Ireland. The regulations include the following:
Waste Management (Collection Permit) Regulations, 2001
All individuals involved in the collection of waste must now apply for a waste collection permit from the local authority. Sligo County Council is responsible for the issuing of permits. Householders and Businesses should also be aware that a recognised permitted collector may only collect waste. It is an offence under the Waste Management Act 1996 to transfer waste to a person who does not have a valid waste collection permit.
Waste Management (Permit) Regulations, 1998
These regulations provide for the granting of waste permits to persons involved in waste disposal and waste recovery activities.
