Anti Litter Initiatives

What can you do to help Litter?
Many people in are working extremely hard to combat the problems of litter. The local authority, schools, residents groups and community groups all assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the county. Why not get involved in a clean-up in your own area. The local authority will assist by providing bags, gloves and litter-pickers. I ask everyone not to litter and not to tolerate those who do.

If you do want to report a litter offence, contact the litter warden at your local authority:

Attention Dog Owners
The Litter Pollution Act, 1997 covers offences with regard to dog fouling in a public place. A person in charge of a dog should immediately remove the faeces and ensure it is properly disposed of in a suitable sanitary manner.

Pooper-scoopers are available free of charge from Sligo Borough Council, Sligo County Council, Veterinary clinics, Sligo Library and local outlets.

A person in charge of a dog who contravenes the act shall be guilty of an offence and can be liable for a fine of €125.

Be a responsible dog owner and clean up after your dog!
