Over 3,700 Car Parking Spaces Available for Christmas Shoppers
Over 3,700 ‘off-street’ car parking spaces are available to Sligo’s shoppers over the busy Christmas period. The ample car parking facilities in both public and private car parks in the city should ensure that shopping in Sligo this Christmas should be an enjoyable and relaxed experience. 1060 car parking spaces are available in nine public pay and display car parks, 1064 spaces are available ‘on street’ and there are in the region of 1600 spaces in private pay and display car-parks. Explained a spokesperson for Sligo Borough Council ‘There is ample off street parking available in Sligo city to accommodate the many shoppers expected in Sligo over the next few weeks. The large number of spaces, and their location convenient to the main shopping areas, will make life easier for people bringing their cars to Sligo. The pedestrianisation of O’Connell St should attract increasing numbers of visitors to Sligo, and I feel they are well catered for in terms of car-parking facilities’ An experimental street signage layout has been put in place for the Christmas period, identifying all the city centre car parks and indicating capacity and whether they are operated on a daily or hourly basis. ‘Where possible commuters are asked to consider using car parks on the fringes of the city, such as Connaughton Road, rather than relying on city centre car parks.’
