CELEBRATING OUR HERITAGE
Heritage Week in County Sligo runs from 26th
August to 3rd September, and provides an ideal opportunity for people to become
acquainted with our unique heritage. Last weekend Sligo Field Club organised a
tour of Sligo cemetery, and on Monday last the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County
Council, Councillor Jim McGarry hosted a reception for FR Tom Davitt, Grandson
of the founder of the Land League, Michael Davitt. The reception was followed a
visit to Sligo Courthouse, scene of the famous ‘sedition’ trial of 1879.

CIVIL DEFENCE
If you would like to take up a new voluntary
activity, and in the process carry out valuable work for your community, why not
consider becoming a Civil Defence volunteer?
Sligo Civil Defence are hosting a series of
information days throughout the county in September, and local volunteers will
attend to answer any questions you might have. Training is due to commence in
September and will run through to April 2007.
The programme of information days is published
in the Sligo Local Authorities ‘Diary of Events’ advert in the public notices
section, and can also be accessed on the Sligo County Council website. |
