HONOURING THE NEW CHAMPIONS
The Cathaoirleach Councillor McGarry hosted a ‘Welcome Home’ reception in County Hall for the victorious Sligo Ladies team, newly crowned All Ireland Junior Champions. The reception was attended by the players, management team, their families, many of their local supporters. Guests included Mayor Councillor Tom MacSharry and members of Sligo County Council.

SPC ON FACT-FINDING VISIT TO DERRY
Sligo County Council’s Strategic Policy Committee of Economic Development and Planning (SPC1) has visited Derry for a briefing on the city’s regeneration plan.

The Northern Ireland Executive established an urban regeneration company (Ilex) to develop an integrated strategy for the Derry City Council area. The Sligo delegation was particularly interested in the development of the riverside area, in the context of Sligo County Council’s responsibility for Sligo harbour.

NEW ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR POLICY
Local Authorities have a duty to manage and control dwellings let under the Housing Acts, and to secure and protect the interests of tenants and their families in the peaceful occupation of those dwellings.

Sligo Local Authorities will shortly be publishing an information leaflet on ant-social behaviour. The leaflet will set out the authorities commitment to the prevention and elimination of ant-social behaviour in its housing estates throughout the county, and will detail tenants rights in responding to nuisances in their neighbourhood.

The leaflet gives advice on reporting an incident, explains how the complaint is processed, and outlines the Council’s role in this area.

ROAD SAFETY PLAN
An inter-agency group formed to produce a new Road Safety Plan for Sligo has held its first meeting. The group is made up of representatives of Sligo County Council, Gardai, Health Services Executive and the National Roads Authority.

The group will develop a series of measures to highlight and promote the vitally important issue of road safety in our county, taking into account the recommendations of the Department of Transport’s ‘Road Safety Strategy 2004 – 2006’ and the provisions of the Road Safety Authority Act 2006.

CHECK THE REGISTER!

Sligo County Council’s Field Officers have been visiting households throughout the county compiling the draft register of electors. While very effort was made to contact each household, the Council is asking the general public to ensure their name is included. The register can be checked in the offices of the Local Authorities and Garda stations, and can also be checked on-line at www.sligococo.ie

HEDGE CUTTING
Landowners are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring that hedges and trees on land adjoining a public road do not become overgrown and become a hazard for road users. Examples would include dead or dying trees interfering with footpaths, blocking footpaths, obscuring roadsigns or blocking the view of the road ahead.

Under the Wildlife Acts hedgecutting must be carried out by end of February 2007
