€4M CONTRACT FOR ENNISCRONE WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
Sligo County Council has awarded the contract to Electrical and Pump Services Ltd. to design, construct and operate and maintain (DBO) a new Wastewater Treatment Plant at Enniscrone. The plant has an ultimate design capacity of 5000 population equivalent, to fully comply with National and EU legislation. The cost of the design and build phase of the project will be €4M.

The new plant will provide wastewater treatment to serve existing and future domestic and non-domestic wastewater producers in the environs of Enniscrone. The works will cater for loading which is over and above the current capacity of the works and its provision will facilitate future development within Enniscrone. It will also provide environmental enhancement to the receiving waters at Killala Bay.


 

 


HONOURING OUR VOLUNTEERS
The volunteers in Sligo’s emergency services were honoured by the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Councillor Jim McGarry at a reception held recently in County Hall. The groups honoured for voluntary services to the community were:

  • County Sligo Civil Defence

  • RNLI

  • Order of Malta

  • Sligo-Leitrim Mountain Rescue

  • Sligo Sub-Aqua Club.

In his address the Cathaoirleach remarked that ‘Anyone trying to capture the essence of community and voluntary spirit should look no further than people we honour this evening.’ The Cathaoirleach made a presentation to each of the groups honoured at the reception.

Meanwhile, nominations for Sligo County Council’s Cathaoirleach’s Awards 2007 are being examined, and the winners will be revealed at a ceremony in County Hall on Friday 4th May.


SLIGO AND LEITRIM MEET ON N16 UPGRADE
Councillors and officials of Sligo County Council and Leitrim County Council have been meeting recently in Manorhamilton to discuss the upgrading of the N16 from Sligo to Blacklion. A working group has been established made up of five councillors from each authority, and an invitation will also be extended to Cavan County Council to be represented on the group. A public meeting was held on 26th March to outline and discuss proposals for progressing this project.


LAUNCH OF COUNTY SLIGO HERITAGE PLAN
Following extensive public consultations, the ‘County Sligo Heritage Plan 2007-2011’ will be formally launched at the offices of Sligo County Council on 27th April. The Plan builds on the successes and learning of the first County Sligo Heritage Plan 2002-2006 and represents a further deepening of the role of the County Sligo Heritage Forum in shaping and contributing to the local heritage agenda.

The publication represents a five year ‘work plan’ which identifies realistic and achievable actions, and seeks to co-ordinate heritage activity within the county to deliver benefits for Sligo’s heritage.

ICBAN DELIVERS FOR SLIGO
A recent meeting of the Irish Central Border Area Network (ICBAN) reviewed the infrastructural improvements funded by the body in recent years. According to Senior Engineer Tommy Carroll ‘ In the region of €1m was provided over a three year period, and this has enabled Sligo County Council to undertake much needed improvements to harbours on West Sligo Coastline, amenity improvements at our coastal resorts and a major upgrade of Raghly Harbour. Our road network has also benefited from the ICBAN programme though re-alignment and re-surfacing schemes.
