Sligo Borough Council has vowed to ‘use every means possible’ to deter motorist
from illegally parking in the Market Yard on market day. When traders are
setting up their stalls on Friday morning, they are regularly faced with the
problem of cars illegally parked in their bays, and the Council is determined to
ensure that this will not be allowed to continue.
A Borough Council spokesperson said: ‘Traders who have purchased licenses to
trade do not deserve to have their bays occupied in this way. We will be
monitoring this situation very closely, and will pursue motorists who persist in
behaving in this way. We are fully prepared to take court action if necessary,
and motorists could be levied with fines of over €2,000, including costs.’
‘In addition, this problem is preventing traders conducting their business, and
there is also an important health and safety issue, as shoppers are forced to
make their way around illegally parked vehicles.’ |
