Eastern Garvoge River Bridge and Approach Roads

A fundamental part of continuing and developing Sligo’s success as a Gateway City and regional capital, is the development of good transport and infrastructural services throughout the city and environs. As part of the city’s infrastructure development programme Sligo Borough Council has identified the need for the provision of a new Garvoge River Bridge crossing on the eastern side of Sligo City Centre. Such a proposal has

been included in Sligo Borough Development Plans since the 1970’s. The proposed development is intended to join communities North and South of the Garvoge River, improve access to and from eastern areas of Sligo City, improve circulation around the city and reduce traffic congestion. The southern
section ties into the existing road infrastructure at Crozon Promenade and covers the areas of Doorly Park and Martin Savage Terrace. The northern connection routes extend to Ash Lane and Dromahair Road (R286). It is envisaged that the proposed link will improve capacity deficiencies within the city and reduce journey times for those situated in the eastern quarter. This project is a critical part of our infrastructural development programme geared to the development of Sligo as a Gateway City.

It is proposed to have a public display and information period between Wednesday 2nd May and Wednesday 23rd May.  Maps and preliminary design documents will be available for viewing during office hours at the locations shown below:
