Sligo Borough Council’s Regeneration Team is pleased to
announce the handover of six newly refurbished houses as part of the Cranmore
Regeneration pilot project and to welcome the new residents to the community.
The handover of the houses by TH (Contractors) LTD to Sligo Borough Council was
carefully organised to coincide with the immediate take up of occupancy by the
new tenants. Members of Sligo County Council staff, Cranmore Community Co-op
representatives and local residents groups turned out at the Springboard Family
Resource House to welcome new residents on Friday 25th May.
Over the past week the new members of the community have participated in
pre-tenancy courses as part of the Council’s Estate Management Strategy. This is
an important part of ensuring that all new tenants of Sligo Borough Council are
fully aware of their own responsibilities as well as the role and
responsibilities of the local authority.
The Cranmore community has worked tirelessly in partnership with Sligo Borough
Council and other local agencies to develop a strategy to improve the quality of
life in the area. The need to address the negative visual and social impact of
vacant houses was identified early in the process. Sligo Borough Council was
successful in securing funding from the Department of the Environment, Heritage
and Local Government to undertake a major refurbishment of these voids. A
further seven houses will be completed in the coming months bringing the total
no. to 13.
The design and management of the refurbishment project was overseen by Sligo
Borough Council’s Architectural Dept., and TH (Contractors) Ltd. were
contractors for the project For further Information Contact: Cranmore
