Welcome to Sligo Borough Council’s Environmental Information Pages. They contain information and advice on a variety of waste related issues that include composting, recycling and waste regulations. We hope that the information we have provided will help you as a householder or business owner to manage your waste in a way that will protect the environment and safeguard it for future generations.
Sligo Borough Council’s Environment Services Co-ordinator, has responsibility for the promotion of Environmental Awareness in Sligo City. The main focus of the Environment Services Co-ordinator work has been the promotion of environmentally responsible management of household waste including recycling and composting initiatives. Other areas being priorities include litter prevention and community environmental projects.
Under Section 10 of the Litter Pollution Act, 1997-2003, Local Authorities are required to adopt Litter Management Plans for their functional area. The purpose of this plan is to improve the Litter status of the City of Sligo.
