The Draft Register of Electors 2009/2010 is now being compiled. The Register of Electors, based on the revised Draft Register, will come into effect on 15th February 2009.
Only persons whose names appear on the Register of Electors will be entitled to vote in Referenda and/or Dail or Local Government Elections and/or European Assembly Elections held between 15th February 2009 and 14th February 2010.
The Electoral (Amendment) Act, 2001 makes provision for the preparation of an “edited” version of the Register of Electors omitting the names and addresses of electors who have requested that the information is not to be used for purposes other than that for which it was provided or other statutory use. The “edited” version of the Register has been in force since 1st February 2005. If you do not want your details to be included on the edited register, you should tick the relevant opt out box on the RFA application form. If you want your registration details to be included (i.e. available for non-statutory uses), you should leave the relevant opt out box blank.
Sligo County Council, as Registration Authority, takes every possible care to ensure that the names of eligible persons are included on the Register.
EVERY PERSON WHO WILL HAVE REACHED 18 YEARS OF AGE ON OR BEFORE 15TH FEBRUARY 2009 should ensure his/her inclusion on the Register by submitting an application form to the Corporate Services Section, Sligo County Council, County Hall, Riverside, Sligo or by contacting the Field Officer for the area, not later than 1st October, 2008.
REMINDER - YOU CANNOT VOTE UNLESS YOUR NAME IS INCLUDED IN THE REGISTER.
If you have a physical illness or physical disability that is likely to continue for the duration of the Register (12 months from 15th February 2009), and you are ordinarily resident in a hospital, in a nursing home or similar institution for persons with a physical illness or physical disability, you should now apply for inclusion on the Special Voters List of the Register of Electors 2009/2010, by obtaining an application form SV1 (coloured white) from Sligo County Council, all post offices and Garda Stations in County Sligo, all Sligo County Council Area Offices and County Library, Stephen Street, Sligo, and returning same not later than 25th November, 2008.
