Notice of proposed development under Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations, 2001 (SI 600 of 2001)
Notice is hereby given pursuant to Article 81 (1) of the Local Government Planning and Development Regulations 2001 that Sligo Borough Council and Sligo County Council intend to develop the Western Distributor Route over a length of approximately 2.35 km from the Caltragh Interchange on the Sligo Inner Relief Road to the Strandhill Road, near First Sea road. The new alignment passes through the townlands of Caltragh, Magheraboy,  akfield / Derrydarragh, and Ballydoogan in the Borough of Sligo and County of Sligo. Sligo Borough Council and Sligo County Council, as part of this development, also intend to realign the existing Oakfield Road to provide a link road “IDA Link Road” from the proposed Western Distributor Road to a proposed IDA Business Park at Oakfield/Derrydarragh.

The Western Distributor Route is Objective T1.2 in the Sligo and Environs Development Plan 2004-2010. The realignment of Oakfield Road is Objective 3.5 of the Sligo and Environs Development Plan 2004-2010.

The proposed development includes the following:
  • The provision of approximately 2.35km of single carriageway road including the provision of a verge, cycleway and footway on both sides. The provision of central hatching along the proposed road to allow for right turn lanes at future junctions and pedestrian crossing facilities.
  • The provision of a priority staggered junction on Western Distributor Route for Rusheen Lane in the townland of Magheraboy.
  • The provision of a road bridge on the Western Distributor Route crossing the existing Dublin-Sligo railway line in the townland of Magheraboy.
  • The provision of an at-grade roundabout junction at the junction of the proposed Western Distributor Route and the Oakfield Road with a southern arm (hereinafter called the IDA Link Road) forming a realigned Oakfield Road and leading directly into the proposed IDA Business Park and a northern arm tying into existing Oakfield Road in the townlands of Derrydarrgh/ Oakfield.
  • The provision of an at-grade roundabout junction at the northern end of the IDA Link Road at the entrance to the proposed IDA Business Park in the townlands of Derrydarragh / Oakfield and the provision of a tie back into the existing Oakfield Road.
  • The provision of simple T-junction at the junction of realigned Oakfield Road and the old Oakfield Road to provide access to the existing houses in the townland of Derrydarrgh / Oakfield.
  • The provision of an at-grade signalised cross-junction at the junction of Western Distributor Route and Ballydoogan Road in the townland of Ballydoogan.
  • The provision of an at-grade priority T-junction at the proposed entrance to the Mitchell Curley Park in the townland of Ballydoogan.
  • The provision of a realigned at-grade T-junction at the junction of Western Distributor Route and the Kevinsfort Heath estate road in the townland of Ballydoogan.
  • The provision of boundary walls and retaining walls and the provision of access to properties along the realigned Oakfield Road/IDA Link Road in the townland of Derrydarragh / Oakfield.
  • The realignment of sections of the Rusheen Lane, Oakfield Road, Ballydoogan Road and Kevinsfort Heath road in the townlands of Caltragh, Magheraboy, Derrydarragh/Oakfield and Ballydoogan.
  • The provision of cul-de-sac turning area for the houses along the Oakfield Road in the townland of Derrydarragh / Oakfield.
  • The provision of signalised pedestrian crossings in the Kevinsfort and Kevinsfort Heath areas in the townland of Ballydoogan.
  • The provision of a pedestrian guardrail on both sides of the proposed Western Distributor Road in the section between the Ballydoogan Road and Strandhill Road.
  • The provision of a boundary wall with railing on the West side (Mitchell Curley Park side) along the proposed road in the townland of Ballydoogan.
  • The adjustment and increase in height of existing boundary walls along and adjacent to the proposed Western Distributor Road in the Kevinsfort and Kevinsfort Heath area in the townland of Ballydoogan.
  • The provision of ponds for drainage attenuation in the townlands of Caltragh, Magheraboy, Derrydarragh / Oakfield and Ballydoogan.
Plans and particulars of the proposed development are available for inspection during office hours (excluding public holidays) up to and including 27th April. 2007 at the offices of Sligo Borough Council and Sligo County Council at the following locations:
