Be Safe This Christmas
About the House:
- Test your smoke detectors weekly.
- Have your chimney cleaned (for Santa!!).
- Clean the oven - the extra load on the appliance can cause a fire due to high use and grease build-up.
- Keep kitchen clutter away from the stove/oven.
- Be extra careful with matches and candles.
- Avoid loose, flammable clothing. Clothing can catch fire around candles, matches, fireplaces and stoves (both electric and gas).
- Use non-combustible decorations and keep away from heat sources
- Do not overload electrical outlets.
- Throw away damaged cords/cables.
- Always use a spark guard for your open fire.
- Purchase a non-shedding, fresh Christmas tree only.
- Only purchase/use a flame retardant artificial tree.
Christmas Lights:
- Replace damaged lights—do not attempt to repair damaged/frayed wires.
- Never use lights with bulbs missing—the wiring can overheat.
- Keep lights away from combustible materials.
- Only use certified outdoor lights outside.
- Secure all outdoor lights against the wind/weather.
- Unplug all lights/electrical fittings at night or if you are away.
- Avoid using extension cords and if you do follow instructions carefully.
- Do not overload electrical circuits, such as wall outlets and extension cords.
Christmas Wrappings:
