Mayor Salutes All Ireland Champions

Mayor Councillor Veronica Cawley has hosted a reception for the victorious Sligo Hurling Team following their All Ireland victory over Louth. In her address the Mayor said that ‘It is an honour for any Mayor to be able to welcome Champions home, and it is a special privilege for me to welcome the All Ireland Champions our Sligo hurlers to City Hall this evening. In reaching the All Ireland Final, you had gone further than any Sligo team. However it speaks volumes for the management , players and coaching staff that reaching the level of All Ireland finalists was not enough, you were fully intent on going all the way and being crowned champions.’

The Mayor continued ‘I think it is too soon for the players to realise exactly what they have achieved. Every youngster needs their sporting heroes, and it mean so much more when these heroes are from their own community, people they know and respect. This was a genuine team effort, and each and every one of you deserve enormous credit for this achievement.’
