Seaview Drive Promenade Officially Opened

Mayor Councillor Jonathan McGoldrick officially opened the Seaview Drive Promenade on Friday 30th  May, which also marked another significant milestone in the greening of Sligo, and the city can now boast a rich suite of beautifully presented parks and amenity areas. The opening was attended by the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Councillor Seamus Kilgannon, the County Manager Hubert Kearns, local councillors and residents and school children from nearby schools.

Mayor McGoldrick commended the work, planned and delivered by Sligo Borough Council’s Parks Department, saying it is a credit Michael Condren and his team that now “every Sligo person can take  pride in the range and quality of the amenities provided all over our city.”

The Parks Departments’ work has been recognised at a national level when another facility designed and delivered by Sligo Borough Council, the Riverside Enhancement Project, was commended by the Institute of Architects of Ireland. The Mayor believes that these works are “fully deserving of this accolade. The range of facilities available at this magnificent setting are comparable to any park in the country.”

The Mayor acknowledged the major contribution made by Pobal, who funded in the region of 50% of the project cost. He also paid tribute to the main contractor P&S Civil Works, and also Grangemore Ltd for the landscaping works and Ballygawley Plant Hire. The Mayor concluded by congratulating all involved with the development of Seaview Drive Promenade and the park was then blessed by Fr. Noel Rooney.
