The Ukranian ambassador to Ireland, Mr Borys Bazylevskiy was welcomed to Lissadell by Mayor Councillor Jonathan McGoldrick, Cathaoirleach Councillor Seamus Kilgannon and the owners of Lissadell Eddie Walsh and Constance Cassidy.
Mr Bazylevskiy expressed his intention to establish a museum in the Ukraine to honour the legacy of Countess Constance Markievicz and her husband Casimir, wholived in the Ukraine in the early 1900’s. The museum will feature copies of paintings and documents from Lissadell. The Ambassador said ‘Ireland is on the Western edge of Europe and Ukraine is on the Eastern. There are a number of unknown pages in the history of our countries, and we have many close ties and bonds.’
