Cranmore Regeneration Project - Social Plan

The Social Plan demonstrates the commitment of local agencies and local people to work together to make Cranmore a better place to live.  It represents three years of hard work by parties, who have dedicated time and resources on a voluntary basis through their participation in the Cranmore Regeneration Social Working Group.

The plan focuses on the quality of life issues which affect people on a daily basis. These include education, employment, community development, family supports, housing and estate management, crime and policing, opportunities for young people and sport and recreation. It examines the services and programmes which are already in place and how these existing resources can be integrated to maximize their impact.

A report conducted as part of the process of developing this plan revealed that there were 32 Sligo based organisations delivering approximately 95 different services or programmes from once-off events to statutory services, which can be accessed by either individuals or community groups in Cranmore. The Social Plan seeks to ensure that these programmes or services are coordinated and promoted in such a way that local people obtain maximum benefit whilst at the same time gaps and duplications in service provision are avoided. It provides a framework with 60 strategic objectives aimed at improving integration between service providers in addition to promoting community participation in devising and implementing solutions to issues impacting on the quality of life in the area. It aims to build on the existing strengths in a community which boasts 18 voluntary organisations and a strong tradition of community development.

The Social Working Group is committed to the ongoing monitoring the implementation of this plan into the future and will continue to provide a forum for the local community to raise issues pertaining to the quality of life and the delivery of services in the area.
