The difficult economic conditions has obliged Local Authorities to identify savings and efficiencies in their service areas. The challenge for Sligo Borough Council and Sligo County Council is to make best use of limited resources to provide an optimum service to the public.
Sligo Borough Council and Sligo County Council operate two separate Housing offices, staffed independently, carrying out similar functions in the administration of the Housing function to their respective administrative area. Both offices are located in Sligo Borough.
From Monday 2nd July the two existing Housing offices will be combined and be provided at one location, at City Hall in Quay Street.
The new one combined Housing office will still service the two Housing Authorities Sligo Borough and Sligo County Councils. City Hall is chosen as it is a central and accessible location and customers can conveniently combine their visit to the section with other business in the town, it is also close to public transport and taxi connections. Traditionally more customers attend in person at City Hall than County Hall. Housing Services will be provided in City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo, from Monday 2nd July.
The Finance Department has operated on a shared services basis since March 2005. Staff in both the County Building currently work on both County and Borough financial transactions and staff in City Hall work on both Borough and County Income collections. There has been great benefit in staff completing tasks of a similar nature for both Authorities being located together. Cashier facilities will remain available at City Hall for the payment of Sligo Borough Council and Sligo County Council rents, loans, rates and the payment of parking fines etc. Finance Administration Services will be provided in County Hall, Riverside from Monday 2nd July.
