Mayor Commends ‘Lough Gill’ Fundraisers

Mayor Councillor Rosaleen O'Grady has hosted a reception in City Hall to honour the organisers of a ‘Lough Gill Swim’ in aid of the Northwest Hospice. The Mayor said that ‘The North West Hospice holds a special place in the hearts of Sligo people and the wider region; They acknowledge its role in our community, the valuable supports it offers to their patients and their families, and they hold their excellent staff on very high regard.’

The Mayor commended the instigator of the initiative Paul McGarry and his team ‘who found a unique way to capitalise on this goodwill in establishing the ‘Lough Gill Swim’; The venture had all the ingredients for success, including a committed team of people who had the vision and drive to bring this to fruition. The funding target set by the organising committee was comfortably exceeded, and this is a great credit to all concerned.’

The Mayor concluded her address by welcoming ‘The hugely positive reaction to the ‘swim’, and it certainly has the potential to become an annual fund-raiser for the North West Hospice.’
