Mayor Supports Rovers' in Europe

Mayor Councillor Jim McGarry has praised Sligo Rovers for their efforts in their recent Europa League campaign. ‘I know we narrowly lost out on qualifying for the next round, but in terms of effort on the field and preparations off it, I think the club can be proud of their achievement. The Showgrounds was in impeccable condition, everything was organised very thoroughly and professionally, and I thought we were unlucky to lose on the night. The away leg followed the same pattern, we dominated the game, but could not manage to convert our superiority into goals. However the experience gained in these fixtures will stand to the players and the club in the future.’

The Mayor added that he is still confident about Rovers’ prospects this season ‘On our day we can offer a challenge to any team in the country. If we play to our potential there is no reason why can’t move up the League Table and progress in the Cup competitions.’
