Mayor Honours Lily Rosney

Mayor Councillor Jim McGarry hosted a reception in City Hall for Lily Rosney, whom he described as ‘a remarkable woman who is treasured by her family, her local community and her many friends’.

Councillor McGarry spoke of the special attractions of Doorly Park ‘I grew up and was raised in an area that could be described as ‘Old Sligo’. Doorly Park is in the same cherished category, a community of old friends and  dependable neighbours, where people look out for one another, where a valuable network of supports are there for people who need them. While the landscape has changed, the spirit and character of Doorly Park has remained the same, and this is due to the presence of people like Lily Rosney.’

‘Lily was the sort of neighbour everyone wants to have, a good humoured, decent and caring mother who raised her family with great pride, and who instilled in them the same pride in their community that she displayed over the years. In my view, these qualities shown by Lily Rosney are the qualities that bind a neighbourhood together, a  society founded on mutual respect and friendship, and I think the many, many people who came to know Lily were greatly enriched by the experience.’

The Mayor concluded ‘It is rarely that, as a community, we take the time to honour the special people who have touched our lives. For that reason I greatly appreciate the opportunity to publicly honour Lily Rosney, and to acknowledge her wonderful contribution to the neighbourhood she holds so dear.’
