Pride of Place National Judging Diversity Sligo – Globe House

Address by Mayor Cllr Jim McGarry

Representatives of Diversity Sligo,
Friends and Staff from Globe House,
Members from the Judging Panel,
Staff from Community and Enterprise,
Elected Members,

I am delighted to be here this morning to witness the very important work being carried out by the Diversity Sligo Project.

The cultural landscape of Sligo has changed dramatically in the last two decades. We have seen many different nationalities come to our shores in search of a better life. In order to start the process of integration into Irish society Diversity Sligo has set about working with local organisations and the people of Globe House to offer support and services in what can be a difficult transition.

Since being established in 2001 Diversity Sligo has succeeded in giving the people of Globe House a sense of community while teaching new skills which will aid both adults and children integrate into the wider community.

Recognition of your efforts is evident here today by your inclusion in Pride of Place national judging competition.

The work being done by Diversity Sligo is vitally important to the cultural development of Sligo and long may your good work continue.

Thank You.
