Mayor Councillor Jim McGarry. Message from Mayor of Sligo Borough CouncilThe landscape of Sligo has been transformed in recent times, and the creation of new amenity and recreation spaces has enhanced many areas of our city. The development of Cleveragh Regional Park, our plans for the enhancement of O’Connell St, proposals for the regeneration of Cranmore and the Eastern fringe of our city will ensure the momentum for progress is maintained. These are challenging times for Sligo, and now more than ever we need effective local leadership. As a Council we deliver when we work together as a team, and I regard it as a privilege to be able to do something positive for the people of Sligo. Sligo Borough Council enjoys a close working relationship with a number of key agencies, and together we promote Sligo as a prime location for enterprise and sustainable development. There are high expectations of the Council, and our active partnership with other key players will enable us to plan and deliver major projects. I will represent Sligo to the best of my ability. There are a number of key issues I will focus on in my term; I see it as a priority to retain acute services in Sligo General Hospital. In the area of employment, we should bring forward elements of the National Development Plan, particularly in relation to job-intensive projects. We need investment in employment, infrastructure and community development, and I will be prioritising these areas over the course of my term as Mayor. Councillor Jim McGarry |
