Minutes of Annual Meeting of Sligo Borough Council held on Monday, 21st June 2010, at 12.00 noon in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Sligo


IN ATTENDANCE:

All of the Members and Deputy County Manager paid tribute to the outgoing Mayor, Councillor J. McGarry and complimented him on the way in which he carried out his Mayoral duties during the past year.

The Mayor thanked the Councillors and staff for their help and co-operation during his term of office.

Tributes were also paid to the Deputy Mayor Councillor Jude Devins

1. ELECTION OF MAYOR

Councillor T. McLoughlin proposed and Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady seconded that Councillor Matt Lyons be elected  Mayor of Sligo.

Councillor Arthur Gibbons proposed, and Councillor Declan Bree seconded that Councillor Chris Mac Manus be elected Mayor of Sligo

A poll was taken which resulted as follows:

For Councillor M. Lyons:
Councillor D. Cawley, Councillor V. Cawley, Councillor Devins, Councillor J. McGarry, Councillor M. McGarry, Councillor McLoughlin, Councillor M. Lyons, Councillor O’Grady       (8)

For Councillor C. MacManus:
Councillor Gibbons, Councillor C. MacManus, Councillor S. MacManus, Councillor Bree,             (4)  

The Mayor declared “That Councillor Matt Lyons be and is hereby elected to the office of Mayor of Sligo from 21st June, 2010, to the annual meeting to be held on such day in 2011, as the Borough Council by resolution appoint not being more than fourteen days either before or after the anniversary of the first annual meeting of this Council, allowance to be at a rate of € 37,500 per annum”

Councillor Matt Lyons, then took the chair and thanked his proposer, seconder and colleagues for electing him Mayor.  The Members congratulated Councillor Lyons on his election as Mayor and wished him every success in his year in office.

2. ELECTION OF DEPUTY MAYOR

Councillor D. Cawley proposed and Councillor V. Cawley seconded that Councillor Tony McLoughlin, be elected Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Chris MacManus proposed and Councillor S. MacManus seconded that Councillor A. Gibbons, be elected Deputy Mayor.

A poll was taken with resulted as follows:

For Councillor T. McLoughlin:
Councillor M. Lyons, Councillor D. Cawley, Councillor V. Cawley, Councillor Devins, Councillor J. McGarry, Councillor M. McGarry, Councillor McLoughlin, Councillor O’Grady               (8)

For Councillor A. Gibbons:
Councillor Gibbons, Councillor C. MacManus, Councillor S. MacManus, Councillor Bree    (4)

The Mayor then declared “That Councillor McLoughlin be and is hereby elected to the office of Deputy Mayor of Sligo from 21st June, 2010, to the annual meeting to be held on such day in 2011 as the Borough Council by resolution appoint not being more than fourteen days either before or after the anniversary of the first annual meeting of this Council, allowance to be at a rate of € 9,375 per annum”

3. NOMINATION OF 3 DIRECTORS TO THE SLIGO NORTH WEST AIRPORT COMPANY LIMITED

Councillor C. MacManus proposed and Councillor V. Cawley seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That the outgoing Directors, Councillor Matt Lyons, Councillor Jim McGarry, Councillor Chris MacManus be reappointed as Directors of the Sligo North West Airport Company Limited for the ensuing year”

4. NOMINATION OF ONE MEMBER AS REPRESENTATIVE ON THE BORDER REGIONAL AUTHORITY OPERATIONAL COMMITTEE

Councillor J. Devins proposed, Councillor McLoughlin seconded and it unanimously agreed
 “That Councillor Veronica Cawley be reappointed as representative on  the Border Regional Authority Operational Committee for the ensuing year”. 

5. NOMINATION OF TWO MEMBERS TO SLIGO HARBOUR ADVISORY GROUP

Councillor J. Devins proposed and Councillor R O’Grady seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That Councillor M. McGarry and Councillor A. Gibbons be reappointed as members of the Sligo Harbour Advisory Group for the ensuing year”. 


This concluded the business of the meeting which ended at 12.45 pm.
