The meeting commenced at 9am
Mayor Jim McGarry Chaired the meeting.
On behalf of the Committee the Chairman, Councillor Jim McGarry welcomed Sile Garrett Haran from Marketing Sligo Forum.
Sile Garrett Haran, addressed the Members and informed the Meeting of the functions of the Marketing Sligo Forum and its interaction with the various Agencies. Ms Haran then circulated a booklet titled Sligo’s Calendar of Festivals and Events 2010-2011.
The Members acknowledged the input of the Marketing Sligo Forum.
It was agreed Sligo Borough Council write to the Committee Together for Sligo and Marketing Sligo Forum acknowledging the work they had done in putting together a comprehensive booklet.
It was recommended at the meeting that future funding should be cross referenced.
The members expressed their appreciation for Sile’s attendance at the meeting.
The Members agreed that grants as listed below would be allocated to the following Residents Associations that submitted completed applications.

It was agreed by the Members present that a grant of €33,000 would be allocated from 2010 Grants to Sligo Chamber of Commerce for Christmas Lights.
It was further agreed that a letter should issue to Sligo Chamber of Commerce advising them that Sligo Borough Council had deducted the sum of €1,811 in respect of storage costs of Christmas Lights. The Members referred to a previous decision reached on the 28th October 2009, where they had indicated Sligo Borough Council would not cover storage of lights with exception of a nominal rent.
The Sligo Borough Council Grants Sub Committee further agreed that Sligo Borough Council are not going to fund Storage of Christmas Lights next year and that Sligo Chamber of Commerce be advised of same.
It was agreed by the members that a once off grant of €1,000 would be allocated to The Eire Og Cycling Club for the 2010 National Cycling Championships Event to be held in Sligo from Thursday June 24th to Sunday June 27th 2010.
The members provisionally agreed to a once off grant payment to Sligo Fair Dealers for the Blooming Sligo Project. However the Members requested that that Sligo Borough Council write to the Blooming Sligo Committee requesting that a list of Businesses in the town that have come on board and participated in the Project is submitted to Janet McNamara, A.O. prior to circulation of minutes for the June Borough Council Meeting.
It was agreed by the members that a grant of €450 would be allocated to St. John’s Cathedral for the maintenance of the old graveyard. Sligo Borough Council to advise the committee that a 10% reduction in 2010 grants is being applied.
The members requested that Sligo Borough Council write to The Model, The Hawks Well Theatre and Blue Raincoat Theatre to advise that the Committee do not propose to make a decision on funding until Certified Final Audited Accounts for 2009 are submitted for consideration.
The Members unanimously agreed that in future any application received from a Limited Company should be accompanied by Certified Audited Accounts and a Current Tax Clearance Certificate.
The Members were advised that John Street and the entrance to Smith’s Row form part of the Cathedral’s Architectural Conservation Area (ACA) as set out in the Sligo & Environs Development Plan 2010-2016 and that a number of the buildings to the East of Smith’s Row on the North Side of John Street are Protected Structures.
The members requested that Sligo Borough Council write to Mr Paul Gunning to advise that Sligo Borough Council Support the proposed project in principle but requested the following prior to any further consideration of funding the project.
The Members requested that Sligo Borough Council write to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Sligo Live Festival advising that the Members have difficulty with continuing to fund The Sligo Live Event and requesting that he attend the next meeting of the Sligo Borough Council Grants Sub Committee in June to discuss the matter.
Sligo Yacht Club Hosting International Sailing Event The Mirror European Championships 16th – 20th August 2010.
The members considered the additional information submitted by Sligo Yacht Club. In view of the criteria whereby funding is allocated to Events where there is activity within the Borough, it was unanimously agreed by the Members that they are not in a position to fund this event. It was further agreed that Sligo Yacht Club’s submission should be forwarded to Sligo County Council’s Community and Enterprise Department for consideration for funding.
