Minutes of June General Purposes Meeting of Sligo Borough Council held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Sligo on Monday 22nd June 2009 at 8.00 p.m.

1. PLANNING APPLICATIONS RECEIVED

A list of Planning Applications received were read and noted.

Members expressed reservations about permitting further banking / office uses in O’Connell Street as granted under PD 09/28.  On the proposal of Councillor D. Cawley seconded by Councillor V. Cawley it was resolved unanimously that “That all future planning applications from financial institutions should include appropriate security measures (such as CCTV and special lighting) where the planning applications relates to ATM machines or night safes for the use of the customers in a public place or street.  The cost of these measures should be borne by the financial institution involved”

PD09/29 – Concerns were expressed that this application if approved might not be put to the uses stated and that subsequent applications for changes of use might arise.  Members also felt that this proposal might not fit in with plans for the area and felt it was arising due to the expansion of the Cranmore Regeneration Scheme over too great an area.  The Executive Planner gave details of Additional Information sought.

PD 09/38 – Members welcomed this application and urged the Department of Education and Science to support it financially.


2. PLANNING DECISIONS MADE

The Council noted the list circulated.


3. CONFERENCES

A list of Conferences dated June 2009 which had been circulated with the Agenda was approved unanimously.


4. RETIREMENT OF TOWN CLERK

The Mayor led glowing tributes to Mr John McNabola who will retire from the office of Town Clerk on 03/07/09. All members present joined in expressing appreciation of his work and assistance to Mayors, Councillors and the public of Sligo over a period of twenty six years.  All expressed best wishes to him for a long and healthy retirement.

The Town Clerk thanked the Council for its kind tributes and said he had enjoyed living in Sligo and meeting people from throughout the Community.  He said he wished Sligo Borough Council well and will always follow its progress with interest.

This concluded the business of the meeting which ended at 10.13pm
