2. PLANNING APPLICATIONS RECEIVED

Details of eight planning applications received had been circulated with the Agenda.

Members expressed concern at works proposed in applications 09/09 by Sligo County Council.  It was suggested that land around this building should be developed as a town centre public park.  Members felt the building is in decline due to neglect of guttering, provision of tarmac in grounds, dumping especially of old umbrellas and by provision of too many signs.

Councillor Gibbons proposed and Councillor S. MacManus seconded “That this Borough Council refuse planning application 09/09 on the grounds that Sligo County Library and the front wall, pillars, railings and gates are protected structures”

The Town Clerk pointed out that the motion as proposed related to an executive function.  It was agreed to add the word “recommend” to the motion which was then passed unanimously.

On the proposal of Councillor Gibbons seconded by Councillor S. MacManus it was unanimously resolved “That this Borough Council calls on the County Manager to initiate a programme of work to bring Sligo County Library and it’s surrounding grounds up to Standard including the restoration of the park to the east side of the building”

Councillor S. MacManus suggested that consideration be given to facilities for pedestrians while considering PD 09/11.

The Council then unanimously noted the applications received.
