The sympathy of the Council was extended to the wife, family and parents of Gerry Duggan, Scardenbeg, Strandhill Road, Sligo.
All the Members joined in the expressions of sympathy and the Director of Services extended sympathy on behalf of the staff.
The congratulations of the Council was extended to the Town Clerk and all those involved on the success of the AMAI Conference held in Sligo last week.
Because a number of Councillors had to attend another meeting the Mayor indicated that the meeting would end at 9.00 pm.

The good wishes of the Council were extended to Ms Fiona Redmond, Former Executive Planner who has transferred to Meath. Tributes were paid to her for her work during her time with Sligo Borough Council.
On the proposed of Councillor D Bree seconded by Councillor J Devins a list of Conferences circulated with Agenda on 10th September 2008 was unanimously approved.
On the proposed of Councillor McGoldrick seconded by Councillor Gibbons it was unanimously agreed to dispose of property at Connaughton Road to John Molloy in accordance with notice circulated to members on 4th September 2008.
It was unanimously agreed to defer motions Numbers 15, 16, 17 and 18 from Agenda of 27th August 2008.
Councillor McLoughlin proposed and Councillor D. Cawley seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council provides traffic calming measures at suitable locations along the following roadways
a) Cairns Road
b) Cemetery Road”
The Senior Executive Engineer Roads informed Councillors that no funding had been set aside in this years Block Grant for work on Cairns Road. However he also said that on going widening of the Cemetry Road will continue this year with the purchase of land and construction of walls and footpaths. When this is complete Traffic Calming options will be considered.
Councillor McLoughlin proposed, Councillor D. Cawley seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council calls on the Minster for Health and Children to engage in the evaluation of the excellent cancer service being provided at Sligo General Hospital and show humanity in retaining services for patients in the disadvantaged North West of Ireland Area”
Councillor McLoughlin proposed, Councillor D. Cawley seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council calls on the Taoiseach and our Local Oireachtas representatives to provide a centre of excellence for cancer care at Sligo General Hospital without delay and that the Taoiseach meet with a delegation from Sligo Borough Council to progress this issue”
Councillor Bree proposed, Councillor Gibbons seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That this Council organise a conference relating to the future development of Sligo with particular reference to the safeguarding of the existing cancer care and other public heath services”
