The sympathy of the Council was extended to the Carty and Healy Families on the death of former Councillor “Mixer” Carty.
The members agreed unanimously to adjourn the meeting for 15 minutes as a mark of respect.

On the proposal of Councillor S. McManus and seconded by Councillor D. Cawley, it was agreed to authorise the attendance of Councillor McGoldrick Mayor of Sligo at the St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations in Tallahassee.
At the request from Councillor D Cawley, it was agreed to prepare a progress report on the Sligo Town Centre Masterplan for the next Council meeting after meeting takes places with legal team.
Party Whips to be briefed before the next council meeting to allow for full appraisal of the report.
On the proposal of Councillor S. McManus and seconded by Councillor R. O’Grady it was unanimously agreed to consent to the disposal of dwelling no 42 Jinks Avenue, Sligo to its tenants in accordance with notice dated 6 December 2007.

It was agreed
“That the Borough Council calls on the government to provide extra funding required to increase the Shared Ownership Scheme limits in the interests of allowing young people the opportunity to purchase their own homes”
On the proposal of Councillor O’Grady and seconded by Councillor J.McGoldrick it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council increases the allocation of funding to Feis Cheoil and Feis Shligigh by € 1,000 each”
On the proposal of Councillor McLoughlin and seconded by Councillor D. Cawley it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council contact other Local Authorities to review their current practices with regard to addressing the issue of derelict sites and to report back to the Borough Council at the March 2008 General Purpose Meeting”.
On the proposal of Councillor D. Cawley seconded by Councillor McLoughlin it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council should, as a matter of urgency, write to the Environment Minister John Gormley to request an explanation for the recent withdrawal of the Local Authority Grant Scheme without any notice.
The Council should seek a commitment from the Minister of his intention to reinstate this playground grant immediately”
The progress report on the development of the proposed Childrens Playground in The Fairgreen was noted.
Councillor McLoughlin proposed, Councillor McGarry seconded “That the residents be consulted regarding all proposed works relating to the Proposal Eastern Bridge”.
A lengthy discussion took place wherein members requested that residents in the area would be informed of any developments regarding construction of this bridge.
