On the proposal of Councillor McLoughlin seconded by Councillor Chris MacManus it was unanimously agreed to dispose of the Interest of Sligo Borough Council in No. 22 St. Annes Terrace, Sligo in accordance with notice circulated to members on 20th May 2008.
A report of Ms McConnell, Senior Executive Officer had been circulated with Agenda on 10th June 2008. Ms McConnell outlined the contents of the report and answered queries raised by Councillors in relation to new house starts in 2008, purchase of new and second-hand houses and Cranmore Regeneration Scheme.
Councillor Gibbons proposed and it was unanimously agreed to invite representatives from Cluid / Respond Voluntary Housing Association to attend the July Monthly meeting to be held on July 7th.
It was unanimously agreed to hold the June General Purposes Meeting on Monday 16th June.
A report of the Administrative Officer Finance Section had been circulated with Agenda on 4th June 2008.
Councillor C. MacManus proposed, Councillor McLoughlin seconded and it was unanimously agreed “That Sligo Borough Council Car Park Bye-Laws 2008 be adopted”
The Deputy Mayor took the chair at 9.10 during the absence of the Mayor.
The Mayor resumed the chair at 9.25 pm.
Councillor C. MacManus proposed, Councillor D. Cawley seconded and it was unanimously agreed “That Sligo Borough Council Parking Places Bye-Laws 2008 be adopted”
A report entitled ‘Draft Revised Litter Plan 2008 – 2012’ had been circulated with Agenda on 04/06/08. Councillors welcomed report and on the proposal of Councillor McLoughlin seconded by Councillor Bree it was unanimously agreed to put this Draft Litter Plan on public display.
A report of the Town Clerk dated 4th June 2008 had been circulated with Agenda on 4th June 2008. Councillors noted report and queries raised were answered by the Town Clerk
It was unanimously agreed to defer motion no. 10 on Agenda of 4th June 2008.
Councillor McLoughlin proposed, Councillor MacSharry seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That a footpath be provided on the northern side of the Cleveragh Road in the vicinity to the entrance to Sligo Racecourse”. The Senior Executive Engineer Roads informed Councillors that no funding has been set aside for this work in this years block grant. In order to get proper road alignment and to construct a footpath to the proper standard, land would have to be acquired from Sligo Race Course.
Preliminary designs / investigations have indicated that one of the pillars and the wall at the Racecourse entrance would have to be removed and rebuilt to achieve the correct standards. The costs associated with completing this work are quite substantial
The entrance / pillars at Racecourse area are protected structures and if these were to be relocated this matter would have to come before the Council to consider a variation to the Development Plan.
Councillor McLoughlin proposed Councillor D. Cawley seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That traffic calming measures be provided along the Mail Coach Road at appropriate locations”
The Senior Executive Engineer Roads informed Councillors that this matter will be considered in the context of the refurbishment work currently being carried out in the St. Brigids area. Two locations have been identified on the Mail Coach Road for uncontrolled Pedestrian Crossings and these will form part of a future Traffic Calming scheme.
Councillor McLoughlin proposed Councillor D. Cawley seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That works to upgrade the surface of Larkhill Road for the purpose of directing proper road drainage be undertaken as a matter of urgency. Likewise that a proper width of footpath be provided on this roadway in the interest of safety”
The Senior Executive Engineer Roads informed Councillors that some drainage remedial works were completed in 2007 on Larkhill Road. Widening of the footpath cannot be achieved without appropriate road widening. Significant land would have to be acquired from private residence in order to achieve this. No funding has been allocated for work of this nature. It may be possible to consider other works for this road when the Western Distributor Road has been completed
Councillor McGarry proposed, Councillor McLoughlin seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council erect sign at the entrance of Rusheen Ard, Caltragh Estate”. The Senior Executive Engineer informed Councillors that signage has been ordered and will be erected shortly.
Councillor D. Cawley proposed, Councillor McLoughlin seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough Council investigate the junction of the Park Estate and Strandhill Road and provide the necessary traffic calming measures needed”
The Senior Executive Engineer informed Councillors that a set back has been included as a Condition under a recent Planning application. It is intended to investigate improvement at this location within the coming weeks.
Councillor McGarry proposed, Councillor Gibbons seconded and it was unanimously agreed
“That Sligo Borough request Bus Eireann to include all Cartron in Bus Route to Ursuline Convent”.
